In October 2015 GEW sponsored The Outward Bound Trust with a donation of £10,000 in support of a special appeal for their 75th anniversary.
The Outward Bound Trust is an educational charity that uses the outdoors to help develop disadvantaged young people through adventurous and challenging outdoor learning programmes that equip them with valuable skills for education, work and life.
The Trust was founded in 1941 by Lawrence Holt and Kurt Hahn as a school for merchant seamen.
Today, The Outward Bound Trust is the UK’s leading provider of bursary-assisted outdoor learning and in 2014 worked with 25,802 young people. 3,142 participated through apprentice, graduate or team development programmes. A further 21,744 joined from schools and colleges.
