UK-based curing systems manufacturer GEW will introduce a ground-breaking new UV LED system at drupa 2024, adding to the company’s already diverse product portfolio. While GEW will feature its full product range, the focus will be on its very latest LED systems for sheetfed offset and industrial printing applications. GEW is uniquely placed in the UV curing market and able to offer a solution for almost every printing, coating and converting application, due to the breadth of its product range across both UV Arc and UV LED curing technologies.
In the years since drupa in 2016, GEW has become a major force in UV curing for sheetfed offset presses and has built an enviable reputation as a leader in the field. GEW has manufactured and installed hundreds of sheetfed UV curing systems globally, and has many years’ experience in designing bespoke systems for every major make and model in this sector. GEW’s Design and Engineering teams use state-of-the-art measurement and 3D-modelling technology to ensure that every UV system installation is seamlessly integrated within the press to which it is fitted. This same methodical approach is applied for all GEW installations, whether for commercial print or packaging machinery.
While GEW is the market leader in the Label and Narrow Web sector, the company is also highly active in the mid web and wide web arena. GEW has designed and installed a vast range of UV systems at up to 2.5m wide, all around the world, and has a specialist team dedicated to the bespoke design of complex, large-scale industrial UV curing solutions. This encompasses an enormous range of applications such as UV hot melt, siliconization, wide web offset & flexo, excimer mattification, direct-to-product decoration and wood coating. GEW’s full team of UV specialists will be on hand at drupa, ready to discuss customers’ individual requirements.
GEW will also highlight its renowned ‘ArcLED’ technology at drupa, whereby UV Arc and UV LED lampheads can be simply and quickly interchanged on a press. ArcLED capability is available with almost every type of GEW system installation, whether for sheetfed offset, narrow web, mid or wide web machinery, and across a broad range of applications. This technology has been used to great effect in many sheetfed press installations, where it enables the printer to switch between Arc or LED in both the interdeck and delivery positions, to suit the individual requirements of each print job. With ArcLED, both Arc and LED cassettes are compatible with the same power supply and fit in the same housing for ease. GEW’s RHINO power control system then automatically recognises the lamp type and switches the power supply accordingly.
A further benefit of ArcLED is that it enables the customer to invest in any combination of Arc and LED in the short-term, safe in the knowledge that the investment is future-proofed. The UV system configuration can be altered or fully upgraded to LED at a later date, and with minimal disruption.
Robert Rae, Managing Director of Sales at GEW, comments: “Our UV systems are renowned for their intelligent design, reliability and energy efficiency, which sets them apart as the default choice for many in the industry, whether for OEMs or for retrofitted installations. This will be highlighted at drupa by the number of GEW systems in operation at various OEM stands all around the show, and this in itself speaks volumes about why visitors should stop off at the GEW stand.”
He concludes: “We have so much to offer the customer, across such a broad range of applications and with such precisely targeted solutions. We have installed around 25,000 systems globally and this is backed up with over 30 years of experience in the field. With this in mind, we are looking forward to welcoming customers old and new to our stand, and having the opportunity to outline what GEW can do for them.”
