GEW is sponsoring shooting ace Stuart Clarke for the 2024 clay season. Stuart won the World Sporting Championships in 1997 and 2012 and has been a regular, successful shot over many years. He was recently placed second at the England Team Selection shoot, in the Veterans category.
Stuart is an exceptional coach, tutoring many people in and around Essex and the South East of England. He has a very relaxed, natural method of shooting which allows him to totally focus on the clay target, very reliably reducing it to dust.
As with any sport, practice is the key to success, and GEW’s sponsorship allows Stuart an increased level of practice by helping with the purchase of around 10,000 cartridges.
Stuart is entering about 40 national competitions in 2024, in the shooting disciplines of English Sporting, Sportrap and Super Sporting. The entry fee costs, travel and accommodation will all be offset by GEW’s support. As a veteran, Stuart is shooting well and regularly enjoying success, hitting over 95% of his targets, which by any measure is first class shooting.
Prize money in Clay Shooting is negligible, and rarely covers a shooters’ costs. GEW’s sponsorship enables Stuart to focus on the process of shooting and to demonstrate that it is often this process which underpins success.
Stuart has shooting vests embroidered with the GEW logo, which are being seen at grounds up and down the country. We wish him good shooting and look forward to seeing what practice, focus and some good luck brings.
UPDATE: 03.09.2024
We are pleased to announce that Stuart won the Overall Essex Sporting Championship and Vets titles at Eriswell, with a score of 95/100, on 21st August, 2024.
Stuart has won the competition many times, but is nevertheless delighted with the achievement: “I’ve been fortunate enough to win the Essex title for the 18th time now. I first won it 38 years ago, in 1986 – how time flies!”
Stuart was excited to be a part of the competition again, highlighting the standard of opposition within the county: “I feel Essex is becoming a strong county in all categories. There was a good turnout of participants this year, and some strong opposition of very good shooters.”
He continues: “So whilst this is not a national title, it has always been one of my favourites, and I thoroughly enjoy competing there. Well done to all the other winners.”

UPDATE: 30.09.2024
On 22nd September, Stuart shot the South East Intercounties Championship with mixed success… he finished a tough course with 95 from 100 shots, but was just pipped by one shot, for the prize of overall High Gun.
However, Stuart’s score did win the South East Veterans title. He was also part of the Essex team, which was placed 2nd overall in the competition, only three targets behind the winning team, Kent.
There was also a 25-bird pool shoot in which Stuart shot 24 from 25, and again was narrowly pipped by one competitor with a perfect score of 25. Better luck next time, Stuart!
