Greg Hrinya (GH): “Hello, and thank you for joining us for our newest VideoBite. We bring you the latest news and products in our industry. I’m Greg Hrinya, Editor of Label & Narrow Web and it’s great to be joined today by Amir Dekel, Vice President of Sales at GEW, live from the Labelexpo America’s 2024 show floor.

“GEW has been instrumental in driving the adoption of LED technology. To learn more about the benefits and the processes, I’d like to welcome Amir Dekel. Amir, thanks so much for joining us.”

Amir Dekel (AD): “How you doing Grieg?”

GH: “I’m doing well. So Amir, to start out what are the benefits of going to LED?”

AD: “So generally going to LED means at least five major advantages; less power, long shelf life, no Mercury, no ozone production, very good for the environment, no bulbs to replace, no moving parts; a lot of, lot of different benefits that leads people to go into that, but we cannot forget one important thing – it also cures well. Remember we are here not to, as much, save power as to have a good cure, so all that is the promise of LED.”

GH: “And speaking of cure what can you say about the products that GEW has and what the benefits of these products are?”

AD: “So today, we’re just announcing today, our brand new version of LED product line. It’s a 2, as you can see, it’s an AeroLED2 and LeoLED2. The Leo is the water-cooled, the Aero is the the air-cooled, and we have some really exciting things happening. I’m going to show them to you.

“So the cassette was redesigned from the grounds up and a few noticeable and unnoticeable differences are apparent. First of all, it is about 30% more power than it used to be, so now we are essentially providing the power of water-cooled in an air-cooled shell, so that’s really a good message up to a 26-inch machine.

“Second, the modules are larger and we detach the mechanical attachment from the electrical, so now those two are attached separately and do not influence one of, on each other. The second thing, we enlarge the window; now it’s a 63mm window and now any lost Photon, that before when it was narrower was hitting the shell, now will go down and, and do what it should do which is curing the ink.

“In addition, we place the LED a little bit closer, it’s only 3mm, but 3mm in light technology is a lot and in this way we can get more irradiance going down to the web and achieve better cure.”

GH: “So it’s pretty obvious that there are some big advantages to going with LED technology. I know there’s some reticence from converters to adopting this technology, as it’s not what they’re used to.

“What do you tell converters who are investing in this technology for the first time and what is that process like for them?”

AD: “So I think this is changing and it’s changing rapidly Greg. In fact, what I see, if I will look at the last 12, 10 to 12 deals that were closed in the last few weeks, nine or 10 of them would be LED, so people are not as afraid as they used to be; the inks are there, all the inks manufacturers, you know, provide dual cure inks, they provide enough to, enough photo initiator to cure at almost any speed today, so this trend is changing, and people enjoying the benefit very, very quickly and with our ArcLED technology, our Patented ArcLED Technology, where you can still go back to conventional in any station, then the fear is gone, essentially the fear is gone.”

GH: “That’s great information, thanks so much for sharing that with us today Amir.”

AD: “Thank you.”
